If you are wondering why the Dovecote has been closed to visitors these last couple of weeks, and what has been going on in there, then let me explain all.
As advised in our update in the last edition of this magazine we have secured the necessary funding to enable us to start the work required to transform part of the ground floor of the Dovecote into a shop.
On Monday 15th February, Dave Gittoes, a builder from the village, and Carl Evans from Euro Electrical Contracting, based in Hereford, began work on the project. Both Dave and Carl worked on the original restoration of the Dovecote in 1999 and we are delighted to have secured their services for this latest development. We are also replacing all the windows, again using a local contractor,Andrew James.
Volunteers will be painting the inside of the ground floor with a lighter, brighter colour to enhance the whole appearance of the building and to meet with the requirements of the Trading Standards and Conservation departments.
We are holding a meeting for volunteers in the Village Hall on Wednesday 17th March (time t.b.c.), any amount of time you can give to the shop in any capacity will be greatly appreciated, we want to involve as many people from the community as possible.
Shares in the Association can still be purchased to enable you to have a say in how the enterprise is run and how any surpluses are distributed.
Should you wish to volunteer, buy shares or want to know more about the project contact any member of the Committee, details below.
We are targeting w/c 29 March to open the shop, please watch for announcements on village notice boards, the website and the Dovecote.
Albert Sheffield, Chair of Committee.
