New Years Eve

The ticket said “7.00pm until late”.  What could we do for five hours? Answer, have fun and that is just what we did.

We arrived at the village hall to find the tables decorated with pretty cloths, flowers, streamers, chocolates and quizzes to keep us occupied until the “hot pot” arrived.

A bright array of items were arranged down the middle of the hall on tables for the Tom Bola, soon we were reaching for our purses.  Grandma’s apple pie and custard went down a treat. A magician entertained us with amazing tricks. £1 coins were rolled towards a bottle of champagne, with the nearest coin winning and the bottle taken home to be drunk on a special occasion.  Song sheets were handed round and the singing was led by “Three Lads from up North”, accompanied by a chap, also from up North on the recently tuned piano.

More games and disco before the auction of donated items to raise money for “The Megan Baker Charity.”  With midnight approaching it was back to a sing song with flags waving to Rule Britannia and Land Of Hope and Glory. Balloons floated down at 12.o’clock as the bells chimed out to great 2009.

Raffle prizes had adorned the hall all evening and now the tickets began to be drawn. We were spoilt for choice.

Where had the time gone? Midnight had come and gone and into the early hours the disco was still in full swing. What a night to remember.

Thank you David and Sue for arranging this event and also a thank you to your friends who chipped in. Well done.
